Meet Our Managing Director: Terry Whitfield
Terry was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He earned a master’s in youth development from Michigan State University. He enjoys perfecting recipes with his mom, playing golf with his father, and spending quality time with his son, Beau, and wife, Shea.
Prior to joining the BEDAD Team, Terry served as partnership manager for the Foundation from September 2017 to April 2024. Additionally, he has served as a youth development worker and community organizer for 10 years for organizations such as Southwest Counseling Solutions and Alternatives for Girls.

Developing Despite Distance supports young men of color currently impacted by parental incarceration. Through consistent letter writing, our goal is to strengthen the parent-child relationship. Through group counseling, our goal is to empower young men to identify their emotions and create healthy coping strategies.

Ebenezer Community and Cultural Center (EC3) was founded by a group of human service professionals, all of whom were members of the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. These women and men, guided by their faith and belief in the dignity and inherent rights of all people, set out to provide community outreach services designed to be a source of help during times of trouble, to provide services to strengthen, preserve and prevent the separation of families and to offer activities for youth that build assets and resilience within youth growing up in poverty.
